Ukrzaliznytsia relies on EU support for terminal and railcar construction

A state-run Ukrainian railway company Ukrzaliznytsia is expecting that the EU Solidarity Lanes initiative of the European Union will contribute to the construction of terminals in the border area, as well as the construction of European standard freight cars for the shipment of Ukrainian products, the Chairman of the Board of the railway company Oleksandr Kamyshin announced at the Infrastructure Day 2022 held by the European Business Association in Kyiv on Tuesday, November 29.

A few weeks ago, the European Commission announced the accumulation of EUR 1 bln of investments to finance the Solidarity Lanes initiative focusing on the logistics of Ukrainian agricultural products, Rail.insider reports.

"The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine is a partner and manager of these funds. We are in active partnership with them. We expect that part of these funds will be spent on at least two categories. The first is financial incentives for transshipment terminals on the Ukrainian territory near the border zone. The second is partial compensation for the construction of a new railcar fleet on a "narrow" (European gauge – ed.) track. We trust that the interests of Ukraine will be defended and we will receive a significant share of this billion."

Previously the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov said that the demurrage costs USD 30,000 per day.
