Maritime ports of Ukraine were blocked by russia since February 24, 2022, the day this country started a full-scale war against Ukraine until on 22 July a grain deal was signed in Turkey.
On March 18, 2023, the deal was renewed, although russia claims it was extended only for 60 days. Turkey and the UN have not commented on the period of the deal extension. Ukrainian authorities stress the grain deal was prolonged for another 120 days as provided in the original document signed by all parties in Turkey.
On May 2, the European Commission banned imports of Ukrainian wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower seed to five countries — Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria. This decision will be effective until June 5.
