Ukraine begins barley harvest, analysts flag 'worryingly low' yields

Ukraine has launched its 2025 barley harvest, with fieldwork starting in the southern part of Mykolaiv region, according to analysts at ASAP Agri.

As part of a wheat crop tour this week, the ASAP Agri team observed initial barley harvesting in areas of southern Mykolaiv that were hit hardest by spring frosts and drought.

Early yield reports range between 1.0 and 1.5 tons per hectare, which analysts described as “worryingly low,” reflecting the adverse weather conditions that have plagued the season.

Earlier, Agriculture Minister Vitalii Koval said this year’s barley harvest is expected to reach 4.5 million tons.
