Kernel switches one of its oilseeds crushing plants to green energy

Kernel will now produce vegetable oil at its Poltava oil extraction plant entirely using renewable energy, the company said, noting the plant is certified by international organization Bureau Veritas Group as a consumer of green electricity.

“By powering the Poltava plant fully with renewable energy from sunflower husk, we reduce dependence on fossil fuels and cut greenhouse gas emissions,” Kernel said.

The company added that it generates twice as much green electricity as needed for the plant’s operations.

Poltava OEP became the first food sector enterprise in Ukraine to join the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), reflecting Kernel’s commitment to decarbonization and climate resilience across its entire value chain — from fields to logistics.
