Chumak halts construction of tomato processing plant in Odesa region
Ukrainian food producer Chumak, part of Wilmar International, has paused plans to build a new tomato processing plant in Odesa region, LIGA.net reported.
The company’s main facility in Kherson has been under temporary occupation since the start of russia’s full-scale invasion. In 2023, Chumak announced plans to construct a new plant in Odesa, but the project was halted at the stage of design preparation and site selection after a russian missile strike destroyed the Delta Wilmar Ukraine oil terminal in April 2024.
“The project has been put on hold due to macroeconomic risks and the security situation,” Chumak’s Chief Operating Officer Oleksandr Boiko told LIGA.net.
Following the loss of production capacity in Kherson, the company had to adapt its operations. Initially, Chumak imported tomato paste in triangular tubes from Italy, and in 2025, it began using the facilities of a Ukrainian partner for production.
