Winter crop sowing surpasses halfway mark but lags behind last year across most crops
As of October 14, growers in Ukraine have sown 62% of the planned winter crop area, trailing last year’s pace for most crops — most notably barley and least for rapeseed, according to data from the Ministry of Economy.
Growers have planted 4.08 million hectares of winter crops, or 62% of the forecast area. Compared to the same period in 2024, sowing progress is slower: winter wheat is down 14.5%, winter barley — 33.1%, winter rapeseed — 1.5%, while rye shows a 6.2% increase.
Winter grains are being sown across all Ukrainian regions, with the largest areas in Dnipropetrovsk, Kirovohrad and Poltava regions.
Winter crops planted areas:
- wheat — 2.82 million ha (59% of plan)
- barley — 222,000 ha (38.5%)
- rye — 54,800 ha (79%)
- rapeseed — 985,300 ha (88.4%)
The largest areas of winter rapeseed were sown in Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskyi and Mykolaiv regions, and 13 regions have already completed rapeseed planting.
