Poland’s Laude launches intermodal connection with Turkey via Ukraine
Polish intermodal carrier Laude Smart Intermodal has launched a new intermodal route connecting Turkey with Poland through Ukraine. The first intermodal train, consisting of 50 specialized 20-foot Laude containers, departed from Ukraine's Port of Chornomorsk on November 5. The company’s partner on the project is Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia), reports Nakolei.
The new route reduces delivery time from the Turkish region of Izmir, home to the Port of Aliaga, to the terminal in Zamość to just 10 days.
The launch of the Turkey connection is the first step in implementing Laude Smart Intermodal’s plans to establish regular routes from the EU through Ukraine toward the Caucasus, including Georgia and Azerbaijan. This opens new cargo transport opportunities to regions of strategic importance for Ukrainian and Polish businesses.
“We did it. Just a few months after the initial announcements, we have launched freight transport to Turkey and back. We now have a functioning, proven alternative to road transport and routes through Bulgaria or Romania,” said Marcin Witczak, Chairman of the Management Board at Laude Smart Intermodal.
According to him, a single train from the Port of Chornomorsk can carry twice as much cargo as an equivalent train departing from Turkey or Romania.
