Russia strikes two ports in Ukraine's Odesa region, leaving dead and injured
On Wednesday, January 7, Russia carried out another attack on two ports in Ukraine’s Odesa region, leaving at least one person dead, Vice Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine and Minister for Communities and Territorial Development Oleksii Kuleba reported.
According to him, one person was killed and at least five others were injured.
The Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority specified that the attack targeted the ports of Chornomorsk and Pivdennyi. As a result of a drone strike on Chornomorsk port, containers loaded with vegetable oil caught fire, injuring two people.
Following a missile strike on the port of Pivdennyi, an administrative building and infrastructure facilities were damaged. One person was killed.
Kuleba added that all emergency services are working on site in compliance with safety requirements and that cleanup operations are underway. The ports continue to operate.
UPDATE. January 7, 6:15 p.m.: Head of the Odesa Region Military Administration Oleh Kiper reported that the number of injured had risen to eight.
UPDATE. January 7, 8:28 p.m.: Kiper later confirmed that another person had died, bringing the total death toll to two.
