Russia hits Chornomorsk port with ballistic missile: containers damaged, oil spill reported
Today, January 15, Russia struck a berth at the port of Chornomorsk with a ballistic missile while a civilian vessel flying the Maltese flag was moored, Vice Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine and Minister for Communities and Territories Development Oleksii Kuleba reported.
One crew member was injured and is receiving the necessary medical assistance.
According to Kuleba, the vessel was preparing to transport containers. As a result of the strike, three containers were damaged, and a vegetable oil spill occurred. A floating boom is being installed to contain the spill.
“This is yet another act of Russian terror against civilian port infrastructure, international trade and maritime safety. Russia is deliberately targeting facilities that ensure exports, logistics and food security. All relevant services are working at the site,” Kuleba wrote.
