Dairy farm in Chernihiv region expands with a view to biomethane production
A large-scale expansion of production capacity is underway at the dairy farm Chernihivske Plempidpryiemstvo. The farm is building two additional cowsheds as part of a project designed for a 1,000-head milking herd, Kurkul.com reports.
The farm currently keeps 650 cows, including 500 milking cows, as well as around 1,000 head of young stock and heifers. Alongside the new cowsheds, the farm is constructing a maternity unit with a milking parlour and upgrading its infrastructure.
“The manure transportation system will be integrated across all four cowsheds, with the prospect of installing a biogas plant,” says farm manager Viktor Lanko, outlining the plans.
The farm has also obtained a European milk producer certificate, which is a prerequisite for cooperation with dairy processors exporting products to EU countries.
“Europe requires the entire production chain to comply with specific standards. There are clear requirements for hygiene and animal welfare as well — our farm is fully under the control of the European Union,” Lanko explains.
One of the key elements of the modernization and a factor in reducing milk production costs was the construction of a Buschhoff compound feed plant with a capacity of 2–2.5 tons per hour. The plant was installed by the company Siy Dobro. The decision was driven not only by expansion plans but also by the need to improve feeding efficiency.
