Port attacks lead to accumulation of around 10 mln tons of grain — Vysotskyi
Russia's attacks on Ukraine’s seaport infrastructure directly affect the pace of grain exports and lead to the accumulation of unsold volumes, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture Taras Vysotskyi said in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
According to him, during certain periods, port attacks reduce monthly shipment volumes by 20–30%. As a result, unsold stocks build up on the market.
This primarily concerns grain crops. The volume of accumulated stocks may reach up to 10 million tons. Vysotskyi noted that while this level is not critical for overall market balance, it has a tangible economic impact.
“This is not a critical volume for the market, but it is economically significant, because it represents products for which producers and the state have not received foreign currency revenue,” he said.
