NIBULON to demine farmland in Kharkiv region

The humanitarian demining unit of NIBULON is launching operations in Kharkiv region.

The total area to be cleared amounts to approximately 100 hectares. The plots are non-contiguous, which further complicates the organization of the process.

The work is being carried out under a state contract in partnership with Ukrainian Demining Services LLC. Under an optimistic scenario, the demining operations are expected to take up to 75 days.

A distinctive feature of this project is that NIBULON’s demining unit will deploy GCS-200 mechanical demining machines to conduct technical surveys of the territories.

Mechanized demining will allow the company to:

  • significantly enhance personnel safety,
  • accelerate the clearance process,
  • more accurately determine the boundaries of contaminated areas,
  • optimize subsequent manual work by sappers.

In certain sections, the Battle Area Clearance (BAC) method will be applied, while other areas will be cleared manually. According to NIBULON, this combined approach will allow technologies to be most adapted to real on-site conditions.

“The Izium district is extremely challenging. There have been cases where individual companies incurred losses due to the high density of contamination. There is a significant likelihood of cluster munitions and submunitions being present, including PFM-2 types [anti-personnel high-explosive mine – ed.]. The number of explosive hazards that must be removed manually will directly impact productivity and project timelines. That is why we expect mechanical demining to significantly improve efficiency and process control,” said Vsevolod Petrovskyi, Head of the Demining Division.
