Kernel to invest USD 400 million in energy projects over two years, calls it a strategic move
Kernel has made a strategic decision to develop its energy segment and expand investments in renewable generation. The company is considering large-scale wind and solar energy projects with a combined capacity of around 600 MW, including energy storage systems. This was announced by Kernel CEO Yevhen Osypov at the Forbes Agro 2026 conference held in Kyiv on February 26.
According to him, investments in energy represent a strategic direction for the company’s development and diversification.
“We have made a strategic decision to move into the energy sector. The liquidity we currently have is one of the key components for new investments,” Osypov said.
Kernel began investing in energy projects back in 2018, allocating $230 million to cogeneration. Currently, all of the company’s assets are fully supplied with its own “green” energy.
“This is important from the standpoint of Ukraine’s and our company’s integration into the EU and global standards,” Osypov emphasized.
Last year, the company commissioned a 20 MW solar project. Over the next two years, Kernel plans to invest approximately $400 million in expanding its energy capacity.
To finance the new projects, the holding is in negotiations with international financial institutions, including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), to raise funding for its energy initiatives.
Earlier, it was reported that Kernel will build a 250 MW solar power plant in Chernivtsi region. It will become the largest solar facility in western Ukraine.
