Sowing of spring crops in progress in 17 regions
Ukraine’s spring sowing campaign is underway. As of March 23, 2026, growers have sown 180.1 thousand hectares of spring grains and pulses, which is 126.8 thousand hectares more than a week earlier, according to the Ministry of Economy.
Planting has already begun in 17 regions, including Vinnytsia, Volyn, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zhytomyr, Zakarpattia, Zaporizhzhia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv, Kirovohrad, Lviv, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Rivne, Ternopil, Khmelnytskyi, and Chernivtsi regions.
The largest areas sown so far are:
- barley — 86.1 thousand hectares (about 11% of the forecast);
- peas — 51.2 thousand hectares (19%);
- wheat — 20.5 thousand hectares (11%);
- oats — 20.8 thousand hectares (15%).
In total, the area under spring grains and pulses in 2026 is projected at 6 million hectares, slightly down from 6.1 million hectares last year.
At the same time, as of the reporting date, sowing of corn, buckwheat, and millet has not yet begun.
