OSTCHEM to produce new fertilizer at Rivneazot — ammonium nitrate AMS30

OSTCHEM, the nitrogen holding within Group DF owned by oligarch Dmytro Firtash, is launching a new nitrogen fertiliser on the market — ammonium nitrate AMS30. A pilot batch of 600 tons was sold out within a short period. Industrial-scale production is scheduled to begin in the second half of April.

AMS30 contains 30% nitrogen, which is lower than in conventional ammonium nitrate. The new production technology allows the product to be tailored to farmers’ needs. In particular, it enables the addition of calcium and magnesium upon request, as well as (at the second stage) sulfur enrichment (4.7% and 7%).

AMS30 will be produced using CAN (calcium ammonium nitrate) facilities, which currently face unstable demand in the domestic market. An alternative production technology has been implemented, using steam instead of natural gas, reducing gas dependency and lowering production costs. International expertise was used in developing and launching the technology.

The launch of the new product also creates opportunities to scale up production, the company says. At the first stage, capacity allows for output of 600–800 tons of AMS30 per day, with potential to increase to 1,600 tons per day at the second stage.

“The total project cost is estimated at UAH 10 million. The implementation period was six months. Technical specifications for AMS30 have been developed and registered, confirming its compliance with current standards and readiness for commercial use.”
