New crop grain harvest in Ukraine tops 3 million tons

As of July 14, producers across all regions of Ukraine have begun harvesting early grains and legumes, the Ministry of Economy reported.

A total of 763,000 hectares, or 6% of the forecast harvest area, has been harvested, yielding 3.1 million tons of new-crop grain.

Barley accounts for the largest share of production so far, with 1.84 million tons harvested from 417,700 hectares at an average yield of 4.41 t/ha.

Wheat output has reached 1.11 million tons from 280,700 hectares, with an average yield of 3.96 t/ha.

Farmers have also harvested 156,400 tons of peas from 64,600 hectares, with an average yield of 2.42 t/ha.

The leading regions by harvested volumes of early grains and legumes are:

  • Odesa region — 1.001 million tons from 238,000 hectares;
  • Mykolaiv region — 805,100 tons from 227,300 hectares;
  • Dnipropetrovsk region — 567,300 tons from 148,200 hectares.

Rapeseed harvesting is also underway. As of July 14, growers had harvested 77,000 hectares, producing 149,100 tons at an average yield of 1.94 t/ha.
