Agriculture Ministry: Potential grain and oilseed harvest in occupied territories may exceed 9 million tons

About 3.5 million hectares of agricultural land were planted in Ukraine’s temporarily occupied territories in 2026, while the potential harvest of grain and oilseed crops is estimated at 9.3 million tons, Agriculture Minister Taras Vysotskyi said.

According to Vysotskyi, about 20% of Ukraine’s agricultural land is currently under temporary occupation.

“Today, the only source of information on the state of agriculture in the temporarily occupied territories is satellite imagery. We can see every hectare that has been planted and calculate the potential crop yield. At the same time, satellites only record the fact that crops are being grown. We do not know the details of how the occupiers are disposing of this grain. But there is a fact: the land is producing a Ukrainian crop, and every ton of this grain is being monitored and accounted for by us,” Vysotskyi said.

According to Agriculture Ministry estimates, the potential harvest of major crops in the temporarily occupied territories is:

  • Wheat: about 5.5 million tons from 1.8 million hectares;
  • Barley: 1.3 million tons from 600,000 hectares;
  • Sunflower: 1.3 million tons from 800,000 hectares;
  • Corn: about 50,000 tons from 150,000 hectares;
  • Rapeseed: 250,000 tons from 120,000 hectares.
