Romanian traders say they cannot fulfill contracts due to Ukrainian grain
Romanian farmers and traders say Ukrainian grain has been given priority in rail shipments to the port of Constanta, putting their ability to fulfill export contracts at risk, UkrAgroConsult reports.
According to market participants, all rail capacity from the Siret border crossing and northeastern regions of Romania is currently booked for transporting Ukrainian-origin grain.
As a result, Romanian exporters are unable to meet delivery deadlines under contracts already signed. They say using road transport is economically unviable because it would double logistics costs.
Amid the logistical difficulties, the export price of Romanian milling wheat (12% protein) rose by about $6/ton over the week from Aug. 7 to Aug. 14, reaching $260/ton FOB Constanta.
