Russia strikes Mondelēz plant in Sumy region for third time this year

Russian forces struck the factory of U.S. food corporation Mondelēz International in Trostianets, Sumy region, on Aug. 23, injuring five employees and damaging the company's production and administrative buildings, Suspilne reported, citing the Sumy region prosecutor's office and local authorities.

Those injured included two men born in 1963 and 1976 and three women born in 1983, 1985 and 1973. According to Yurii Bova, head of the Trostianets community, they suffered minor injuries and cuts.

Preliminary information indicated that three strikes were recorded on the company's premises. The administrative and production buildings were damaged.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said the facility was attacked by two drones. The strike damaged the factory premises and injured employees, he said.

Sybiha stressed that Russian attacks on U.S.-owned companies operating in Ukraine harm not only the Ukrainian economy but also U.S. economic interests in Europe.

This was not the first attack on the Mondelēz factory in Trostianets in 2026. Russian forces also struck the facility in February and June.
