Ukraine could regain part of Indian sunflower oil market — expert
Indian buyers are intent on increasing purchases of Ukrainian sunflower oil, but Ukrainian sellers currently prefer the EU market due to higher prices, said Sandeep Bajoria, CEO of Sunvin Group.
According to him, Indian importers are satisfied with the quality of Ukrainian products and are ready to purchase larger volumes if production and supply increase.
At the same time, Asian importers have shifted to other suppliers during the years of the full-scale Russia-Ukraine war. In particular, in the Indian market, Ukraine will now have to compete not only with Russia but also with Argentina.
Victoria Blazhko, Senior Analyst at Barva Invest, said that to win buyers back, Ukraine needs to offer a competitive price and ensure stable supplies.
The situation in the Chinese market remains even more challenging. According to Blazhko, Russia has established overland supplies through Siberia and is developing processing capacity closer to the Chinese border.
At the same time, the restoration of safe operations at Ukrainian ports could help Ukraine regain some of the buyers it has lost in China. However, the analyst believes that restoring Ukraine’s pre-war position in this market will be complex. Blazhko also emphasised that oil trade remains highly sensitive to prices and logistics, meaning buyers may switch suppliers depending on market conditions.
