Turkey and UN push ahead new talks on Black Sea ceasefire — Bloomberg
Turkey and the United Nations are organising new talks with Ukraine and Russia on halting attacks in the Black Sea and protecting grain shipments, Bloomberg reports.
According to a senior diplomat, the meetings are expected to take place in early October. Representatives of the Swiss non-governmental organization Center for Humanitarian Dialogue will act as mediators.
The initiative was launched in September with the support of several other countries. It is intended to partially replicate the framework of the 2022 agreements that ensured the safe transportation of grain, fertilizers and food from Ukrainian ports.
A closed-door meeting on the new initiative was already held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in late September. Representatives of Turkey, the US, Europe, India and Egypt took part.
According to a document seen by Bloomberg, the parties discussed a limited reciprocal agreement that would provide for free commercial shipping and protection of port and energy infrastructure.
