The first port terminal for sugar transshipment to be built in Poland

Port of Gdańsk Authority and the company Polski Cukier, the largest sugar producer in Poland, signed the agreement on the lease of real estate for the construction of the country's first terminal for the transshipment of sugar.

The Center for Transport Strategies (CTS) informs that the future terminal will consist of a silo with a capacity of 50 thousand tons and a finished goods warehouse with a capacity of about 10 thousand tons. Polski Cukier's investments also include the construction of a logistics infrastructure, which includes parking for 37 trucks, a container yard for 130 units and modernization of access roads.

"The construction of the first sugar terminal in Poland gives us the opportunity to export about 75 thousand tons of sugar, which will reduce the need for leasing the external warehouses, as silo in the port will be effectively used. All these aspects will lead to a reduction in the costs of processing, transportation, storage, materials and labor, and finally quantitative sugar losses when transported between a sugar refinery, an external warehouse and a port. The investment will enable Polski Cukier to provide export deliveries outside the EU via the port of Gdansk at a level of about 300 thousand tons of sugar per year," said Henryk Wnorowski, the chairman of Polski Cukier.

Reference: Ukraine in September-October of MY 2017/18 exported 59 thousand tons of sugar.
