Since the beginning of MY 2017/18 Ukraine exported 3.5 million tons of barley

Over four months of MY 2017/18, barley exports from Ukraine amounted to 3.54 million tons against 3.69 million tons in the same period last year, reports UkrAgroConsult.

"Traditionally, in October barley exports from Ukraine are declining. According to the results of the reporting month, Ukrainian exporters shipped 416.1 thousand tons of barley, which is 21% less than the same indicator last year," analysts said.

According to the report, the peculiarity of MY 2017/18 is the record shipment of barley from Ukraine to China — about 790 thousand tons, which is more than 2.5 times higher than the shipments in the previous MY.

"Upswing in the purchases of Ukrainian barley is associated with the reduction of its production in Australia, which was the main supplier of barley to China in the previous years," analysts noted.

Reference: according to the results of 2016, Ukraine increased barley exports by 0.17 million tons to 4.8 million tons (2015: 4.63 million tons).
