Prices for Ukrainian barley hit the record of 2014

The cost of Ukrainian barley in the deep-water ports of Ukraine on FOB basis as of April 4, 2018, rose to USD 208-218 per megaton, Interfax-Ukraine writes.

The price for barley exceeds by 27% the price level by the same date last year. This cost of Ukrainian grain hit the record of the year 2014.

"The key factor for the steadily rising prices for barley over the past few months has been the unstable demand from Saudi Arabia, which is a key importer of this grain crop in the world," the message says.

According to UCAB's data, in 2018 the demand from Saudi Arabia is unsustainable — tenders are not often conducted, yet the volumes are quite significant.

Reference: Ukraine in January-February 2018 exported 207.47 thou. tons of barley for the amount of USD 35.51 million.
