Rapeseed processing in MY2017/18 rose to 190 thou. tons

In MY2017/18 the rapeseed crop in Ukraine reached the maximum indicator over the last 4 seasons, which allowed all market participants to restore their positions after the poor harvest of the season 2016/17. Thus, the harvest of oilseed crop amounted to more than 2.3 million tons, exceeding the indicator of MY2016/17 by almost twice, UkrAgroConsult writes.

In MY2017/18, the volume of processed rapeseed in Ukraine increased to 190 thou. tons. However, given the rising yield and high rates of export shipments, the share of processing decreased to 8.3% compared to 13.7% a year earlier.

By the results of MY2017/18, Ukraine supplied 2.12 million tons of rapeseed to the foreign markets, having broken the reduction tendency in exports. Such a tendency was observed in the previous three seasons and was caused by the corresponding oilseeds production dynamics, on the one hand, and a high proportion of domestic processing (12 -20%), on the other.

Not only the increase in the capacity of traditional markets but also the resumption of supplies to such countries as Pakistan, the U.A.E., India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Tunisia and Hungary is characteristic for MY2017/18.

The outlook for MY2018/19 looks even more optimistic than the results of MY2017/18. The rapeseed marginality on the results of MY2017/18 remained at a high level — 43.6%, which means that the oilseed crop again remains in the category of the most attractive crops for agrarians.

Reference: in MY2017/18, Ukraine exported 2.12 million tons of rapeseed, which is twice as many as in MY2016/17.
