World's largest pork producer stopped production because of African swine fever

The world's largest pork producer, WH Group, stopped production because of the outburst of African swine fever.

This is reported by Liga. Business with reference to the Financial Times.

It is noted that 88 pigs died from African swine fever (ASF) in China. 615 more pigs fell ill. The cases of the disease were discovered on a farm in the HaiZhou district in Jiangsu Province. Specialists were dispatched to cull the sick animals and disinfect the area.

"Before that, two more cases of the disease were found on farms of the WH Group in two other regions of China - Henan, and Zhengzhou. Subsequently, the enterprises of the world's largest pork producer were closed," the report said.

According to the agency, the WH Group shares fell by 7% on August 20.

Reference: since the beginning of the year, there have been recorded 97 cases of ASF in Ukraine. Over the past 6.5 years, the virus was observed in different regions of Ukraine.
