Saudi Arabia imported 62% of the Ukrainian barley

In July-September of MY2018/19, Ukraine exported 62% of the total volume of barley exports to Saudi Arabia, APK-Inform reports.

In addition, by the results of September, Japan is the second key importer with an 11% share.

In July-September, almost 130 thou. tons of barley were delivered to Japan from Ukraine, which is 12% of the projected amount of barley imports to this country in MY2018/19 and is estimated by USDA experts at 1.1 million tons.

"It is obvious that the current situation is caused by difficulties with the supply of barley to Japan from the traditional supplier — Australia, where in the current season grain production is expected to decrease by 12% and exports —by 11%," experts say.

On rapid estimates, in July-September of MY2018/19, almost 2 million tons of barley were exported from Ukraine, which is 37% less y-o-y.

Earlier it was reported that wheat exports since the beginning of MY2018/19, by October 3, 2018, had reached 5.47 million tons, which is 464 thou. tons less compared to the corresponding period last year. Barley supplies also decreased to 2.15 million tons (–920 thou. tons).
