Corn yield in Ukraine hits 12 mln tons

As of October 11, 2018, the Ukrainian agrarians harvested 46.8 million tons of grain from the area of 12 million hectares (81%) with the productivity of 3.9 tons/ha.

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine reports the following yields:

  • early grain and leguminous crops — 34.3 million tons from 9.9 million hectares with a productivity of 3.48 tons/ha;
  • corn — 11.9 million tons from 1.9 million hectares (41%) with a productivity of 6.31 tons/ha;
  • buckwheat — 124 thou. tons from 100 thou. hectares (92%) with a productivity of 1.24 tons/ha;
  • millet — 74 thou. tons from 48 thou. hectares (91%) with a productivity of 1.55 tons/ha.

Harvesting of industrial crops has reached the following results:

  • sunflower — 11.6 million tons from 5.2 million hectares (87%) with a productivity of 2.21 tons/ha;
  • soybean — 2.9 million tons from 1.2 million hectares (68%) with a productivity of 2.52 tons/ha;
  • rapeseed — 2.7 million tons from 1 million hectares with a productivity of 2.61 tons/ha;
  • sugar beet — 5.6 million tons from 116 thou. hectares (41%) with a productivity of 48.2 tons/ha.

Along with the harvest, the autumn sowing campaign is in process. Agrarians have sown 6 million hectares of winter crops (84%), with a projected area of 7.2 million hectares. In addition, winter rapeseed with a projected area of 888 thou. hectares is sown on 997 thou. hectares (112%).

Reference: since early this week, prices for the European and American wheat exchanges have been falling in anticipation of a new supply and demand estimates from the USDA.
