Ukraine ranking 20th by the volume of organic farmland

The development of organic agricultural products market is currently one of the main promising areas of the domestic agricultural industry. This is stated by the co-founder of BIO FARM ORGANIC Svetlana Viyazlovskaya, APK-Inform reports.

She notes that Ukraine, having quite favourable conditions for the development of organic agriculture, has already achieved certain positive results in this area.

“Thus, at present, Ukraine is ranked 20th in the world and 11th in Europe in terms of the total area of agricultural land certified as organic. At the same time, over the past 5 years, they have increased by 54% and now make up 421.5 thou. hectares, of which 48.1% are engaged in the cultivation of grains (7th place among the countries-producers of organic grains). More than 16% are oilseeds (5th place in the world), 4.6% — legumes (7th place). 2% of the land is occupied by vegetable production (10th place), and fruit — 0.6%,” Svetlana Viyazlovskaya comments.

There are 550 registered operators of organic production in Ukraine, 300 of which are agricultural producers.
