Germany dominates among the Ukrainian oilseeds importers in Jan-Oct 2018
For the first time in recent years, Germany heads the rating of the largest importers of the Ukrainian oilseeds. This is reported by Nikolai Pugachev, the deputy director of the National Scientific Center Institute of Agrarian Economics, NAAS corresponding member.
Its share amounted to 14% in the total export volume of these products. In the first nine months of 2018, this country purchased the Ukrainian oilseeds worth of USD 191 million. The scientist noted that Belgium is close to Germany with a share of 13.2%.
Turkey, which from the beginning of the year dominated the import of products of this group, moved to the third position (13%).
Significantly smaller purchases of oilseeds are made by France (8.2%), Belarus (6.0%), the Netherlands (5.8%), Iran (5.4%) and Poland (4.6%).
The cumulative share of these eight countries exceeded 70%.
“A characteristic feature of January-September 2018 was the strengthening in exports of oilseeds to Europe. In general, the EU member states bought about 60% of the products of this group in Ukraine,” the scientist noted.
In January-September 2018, Ukraine exported oilseeds for the amount of USD 1 339 million, which is almost 3% more than in the corresponding period last year. Rapeseed held the leading position in terms of the export volumes. Export deliveries reached 1.7 million tons and were worth of USD 698 million. Supplies of more than 1.5 million tons of soybeans brought USD 600 million revenues to domestic crop producers. The export value of 25 thou. tons of sunflower seeds was more than USD 13 million.
