Over the past five marketing years, the volumes of exported grain from the Ukrainian seaports doubled from 22.1 mln tons to 43.9 mln tons. This was informed by Maxim Shirokov, Head of the Administration of the port of Yuzhny, in the framework of the International Conference Grain Terminals: New Projects, Equipment and Technologies.

This has become possible due to the substantial modernization of terminal facilities and port infrastructure during the implementation of public-private partnership projects between the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA) and businesses.

According to Maxim Shirokov, the implementation of investment projects in the Ukrainian ports will continue.

“In general, over the past few years, USPA reached agreements with the business to invest in the development of terminals and port infrastructure in the amount of over UAH 30 billion. At the same time, the ratio of public and private funds is 1:5,” commented Maxim Shirokov.

He also added that the implementation of joint projects for the construction of transshipment complexes, terminals, reconstruction and construction of berths continues in Mykolaiv, Chernomorsk, Odessa, Mariupol and Yuzhny seaports.

The countries of Asia, the Middle East and North Africa remain the key markets for export supplies of grain through the Ukrainian ports, while the EU countries reduce grain imports from Ukraine. A total of 52 grain terminals are currently operating in the ports of Ukraine.

Previously it was reported that three new port grain terminals would be launched in Ukraine by the end of 2018. Their combined transshipment capacity will be about 9.5 million tons of grain cargo per year.
