Martial law does not affect ports activities, USPA says

By the operational data, the sea ports of Ukraine as of November 26, 2018, exceeded the volume of cargo transshipment of the prior-period by more than 760 thou. tons.

The Acting CEO of the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA) Raivis Veckagans informed that starting from the second half of the year, the seaports managed not only to reduce the 3% lag in transshipment volumes y-o-y, but also to exceed it by 0.6% or 767 thou. tons in late November.

Raivis Veckagans stressed that the introduction of martial law in Ukraine had no effect on the operational activities of the ports.

“USPA continues investing in the development of the Azov ports. By the end of next year, we plan to bring the depths in the ports of Berdyansk and Mariupol to the technical parameters,” he said.

Mariupol sea port works as usual, however, some ships headed for Mariupol have been waiting for passage at the Kerch Strait for about two weeks. Construction of the first phase of the grain terminal continues at berths No. 3 and 4 of Mariupol sea port.
