Corn exports in 2018/19 Sep-Dec season 80% higher

In the 2018/19 September-December season, more than 8 million tons of corn were exported from Ukraine, which is 80.3% more than over the corresponding period of 2017/18. This is the best result for the last 5 seasons, UkrAgroConsult informs.

In December 2018/19, Ukraine exported 3.3 million tons of corn, which is 4.4% more than in the previous month and 45.3% more than in December 2017.

The key importer of Ukrainian corn in the current season is the European Union, which accounts for almost 74% of total exports. In September-December 2018/19, corn exports to the EU countries increased almost threefold compared to the same period last season.

Supplies to China, the second largest market for Ukrainian corn, grew by 13% over the reporting period.

The share of African countries in the total export structure of Ukrainian corn is 8.8%. At the same time, the largest African importer is Egypt, which reduced purchases by 4% in the reporting period.

As previously reported, the projection for global corn production in MY2018/19 had improved by 3 million tons to 1.076 million tons (the previous forecast — 1.073 million tons).
