Grain export 2018: key importers of Ukrainian grain
In the year 2018, Indonesia became the largest buyer of Ukrainian wheat with USD 487 million of imports. Saudi Arabia leads among barley importers with USD 449 million, and the Netherlands imported the highest volume of Ukrainian corn for USD 515.5 million, CTS informs.
“By the data of the Institute of Agrarian Economics, in physical terms, grain exports in 2018 decreased by 0.4% compared to 2017 and amounted to 41.7 million tons,” the report indicates.
The key importer of grain in the reporting period is Egypt with a share of 9.2%. Spain increased the volume of grain purchases by 35% to USD 643 million and took the second position with an 8.9% share of total purchases.
Other importers of Ukrainian grain in 2018 are as follows:
- the Netherlands — USD 556 million;
- China — USD 552 million;
- Indonesia — USD 487 million;
- Saudi Arabia — USD 449 million;
- Italy — USD 336 million;
- the Philippines — USD 316 million;
- Tunisia — USD 290 million;
- Morocco — USD 263 million;
- Libya — USD 248 million.
In monetary terms, these 11 countries formed 2/3 of all purchases of Ukrainian grain.
As previously reported, FAO cut its forecast for world grain trade in MY2018/19 by 2 million tons to 413 million tons.
