Ukrainian agri products export surged 25 pct

In January-February 2019, exports of Ukrainian agricultural products increased by 24.4 pct y-o-y (USD 683 million) and amounted to USD 3.5 billion. This was informed by the acting Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Olga Trofimtseva.

“Agricultural and food products exports from Ukraine hold a share of 44 pct in total exports. The leaders among the exported products are corn (a 33.6 pct share in total agricultural exports), sunflower, safflower or cottonseed oil (20.13 pct), wheat and meslin (11.84 pct),” Olga Trofimtseva stated.

In the first two months of 2019, exports of such products as corn increased by 84.4 pct (USD 528.4), wheat — by 27.8 pct (USD 90 million), oil cake and other solid waste from the production of sunflower oil — by 39.7 pct (USD 55.8 million), seeds — by 82.1 pct (USD 30.2 million), cake and other solid waste from soybean oil production — by 2.1x (USD 26.2 million).

“If we consider the regional structure of agricultural exports, then the most popular destinations in the first two months of this year are Asia (USD 1.38 billion), followed by the EU countries (USD 1.25 billion), Africa (USD 559 million) and the CIS countries (USD 217 million),” Olga Trofimtseva added.

The TOP 10 importers of agriproducts from Ukraine in January-February 2019 included the following:

  • India — 9.6%;
  • Egypt — 9.1%;
  • Turkey — 7.8%;
  • the Netherlands — 7.4%;
  • Spain — 6.7%;
  • China — 5.8%;
  • Italy — 3.8%;
  • Poland — 3.3%;
  • Germany — 2.9%;
  • Belarus — 2.9%.

In January-February 2019, pork exports from Ukraine increased 43 pct to 69 thou. tons (2018: 44.5 thou. tons). The indicated export volume exceeds the year 2017 result by 77 pct (36 thou. tons).
