Ukrainian potato export dropped 3x

In the period from January to March 2019, potato exports from Ukraine stood at 1.9 thou. tons for the amount of USD 519 thou., 3x less from the exported volume over the corresponding period in 2018 (5.9 thou. tons worth USD 10.3 million).

By the data of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine (SFSU), the major importers of Ukrainian potato in the reporting period are as follows:

  • Moldova — 1.6 thou. tons worth USD 434 thou. (83.7 per cent of total deliveries);
  • Azerbaijan — 0.3 thou.d tons, USD 77 thou. (14.9 per cent);
  • Georgia — 0.07 thou. tons, USD 2 thousand (0.4 per cent);
  • others — 0.22 thou. tons, USD 6 thou. (1.7 per cent).

According to the report, in Q1 2019 Ukraine imported 4.3 thou. tons of potatoes for the amount of USD 1.7 million. Deliveries were made from the following countries:

  • the Netherlands — 1.4 thou. tons worth USD 572 thou. (32.3 per cent);
  • Belarus — 0.8 thou. tons, USD 341 thou. (19.2 per cent);
  • Egypt — 0.5 thou. tons, USD 192 thou. (10.8 per cent);
  • others — 0.7 thou. tons, USD 669 thou. (37.8 per cent).

By the data of the State Statistics Service, Ukrainian agrarians produced 190 thou. tons of sweet potatoes in 2018, 10x more from the year 2017 — 20 tons.
