Ukrainian dairy export climbed 5 pct in June
Export of dairy products from Ukraine in June 2019 increased by 4.9% y-o-y to USD 25.7 million, the Association of Milk Producers (AMP) informs.
"Export growth was provided by a group of powdered and condensed milk products. Their exports grew back in May and now continue dominating dairy products trade. Thus, 6 thou. tons of dairy products were sold in foreign markets in June, 36.6% more from June 2018 (4.4 thou. tons)," said AMP analyst Vladimir Andriyets.
In the reporting period, the growth of deliveries was also observed in the group of non-condensed milk and cream, the export of which increased by 4.6% compared to June last year and amounted to 1.7 thou. tons. At the same time, the volume of export deliveries within other groups of dairy products decreased significantly.
"Export-oriented groups reacted most, in particular, butter, supplies of which decreased to 1.5 thousand tons, 61.3% less from June 2018 and 148% less from 2017. The global butter market is now significantly affected by European supply and price. Thus, over the period from January to May 2019, Europe produced 973.9 thou. tons, 1.5% higher vs the previous year's production," noted the analyst.
The average price for butter in Europe was about EUR 4.2 thou. per ton, one third lower than last year. According to the Association's data, the export of cheese also decreased by 40.4% to 372 tons from June last year. In addition, the export of whey decreased by 41.6% and amounted to 1.8 thou. tons.
Ukraine is the third-largest global exporter of casein, fifth-largest exporter of butter and eighth-largest exporter of skimmed milk powder. Ukraine is also the second-largest supplier of butter to the EU after New Zealand.
