Ukraine imports 80 pct of tomatoes from Turkey

In January-November 2019, Ukraine imported 62.72 thou. t of tomatoes worth USD 41.26 mln.

By the data of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine, the key importers in the reporting period are as followed:

  • Turkey — USD 33.74 mln, 81.78% of supplies;
  • Poland — USD 2.94 mln, 7.12%;
  • the Netherlands — USD 1.5 mln, 3.65%;
  • others — USD 3.08 mln, 7.46%.

Export of the tomatoes from Ukraine in the reporting period totalled 8.54 thou. t worth USD 5.09 mln. Thus, the import of tomatoes to Ukraine in money terms is 8x higher than export.

As a reminder, a 23.5 t shipment of Turkish fresh tomatoes delivered to Ukraine in early November was discovered to be contaminated with a quarantine organism.
