China bans poultry imports from Ukraine

China is to ban imports of poultry and poultry products from Hungary, Germany, Slovenia and Ukraine, Reuters informs referring to the customs statement.

"In January Ukraine reported the first outbreak of bird flu type H5 on a farm in almost three years. The European Union soon after imposed a temporary ban on imports of poultry meat from Ukraine, which is the world's fourth-largest exporter of chicken," the message reads.

Reuters reports that China has reported bird flu cases in its Sichuan, Hunan and Xinjiang provinces in the past month, while Germany, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic have confirmed cases recently.

Previously reported that in January 2020, Ukraine exported 37.35 thou. t of chicken meat and edible poultry co-products. In monetary terms, export in the reporting period is valued at USD 45.87 mln.
