Sunflower yield projected higher

Ukraine's sunflower harvest in 2020 is expected to reach 16-16.2 mln t vs. the prior year's 15.5 mln t, the APK-Inform consultancy reports.
Experts revised upward their estimate, which previously stood at 15.4-15.7 mln t back in mid-May, due to the sufficient rains observed in late May and June.
"Sunflower yields were re-estimated from 2.5 to 2.6 tons per hectare. While the oilseed crop area is still expected in the range of 6.2-6.3 mln ha against 6 mln ha a year earlier," the analysts report.

As of May 28, sunflower sowing progressed to 5.99 mln ha, 97% of the planned 6.2 mln ha. In this production season, sunflower sown areas in Kirovohrad region will be the largest in Ukraine.
The total sunflower area in the world in 2019 according to Kleffmann Group was 26 mln ha.
