Winter barley yields 12% higher in Poltava region

New harvest in Poltava region covered more than 138 thou. ha. The agriproducers harvested 634 thou. t of grain, the average yield of early grains is 4.59 t/ha, Golos.com.ua writes.

In particular, 39.8 thou. t of winter barley were harvested on 7.8 thou. ha using the average yield of 5.1 t/ha. This indicator is 0.54 t/ha (11.8%) higher from last year.

"The average yield of winter wheat which was threshed on an area of 126 thou. ha is still behind the last year's figure by 0.3 t/ha. Peas yielded the same average — 3.08 t/ha," the report reads.

Such indicators give grounds for the specialists of the Department of Agro-Industrial Development of Region State Administration to expect early grains threshing at the level of 1.32 mln t. Of this amount, the wheat harvest is estimated at 944 thou. t.

"At the same time, approximately 75% of wheat will be of food quality, that is, suitable for bread production. The unpleasant surprises can only be brought by the weather," the report says.

As of July 16, agrarians of Sumy region harvested 329.75 thou. t of early grain and leguminous crops (27.6% of the total) on 66.4 thou. ha. The crop yields 4.97 t/ha on average. Barley yields 5.2 t/ha.
