Ships stuck in Ukrainian sea ports as harvest delays — Refinitiv

Delayed start of the harvesting campaign and insufficient volume of the new harvest grain for export resulted in many dry-cargo ships stuck in Ukrainian ports in July 2020 waiting for loading, Refinitiv Agriculture writes.
"The situation in all ports is complicated: there are many vessels on the raid waiting for grain, as the Refinitiv interactive map shows. Thus, as of July 31, 2020, about 7 bulkers are off the port of Odesa, 7 out of the port of Mykolaiv, another 10 vessels near the port of Berdyansk," the message reads.
Some ships have been waiting for the load for 10 days or longer already, market sources say.
"It seems like all coasters are here," a Ukrainian trader notes.
The harvest campaign in Ukraine was expected to start as usual, and some exporters sold the new harvest grain, in particular fodder wheat and barley, for July shipment.
Since the start of 2020/21, staple grains export shipment from Ukraine has reached 2.33 mln t. As of July 30, agricultural commodities shipment dropped by 1.13 mln t (33%) from the prior year's comparative period, 3.46 mln t.
Despite the expected increase in the share of coarse wheat in Ukraine in the 2020 harvest, there are practically no export supply offers.
