Pork exports grew 27% in Jan-Oct
In the period January-October 2020, pork export from Ukraine totalled 2.3 thou. t amounting to USD 5.09 mln, 27% more YoY, the Association of Pig Breeders of Ukraine (APU) informs.
Export of pork co-products is developing faster. Thus, the external deliveries of frozen pork co-products (except for liver) are 2.4x higher from the current pork export: in January-October, 5.48 thou. t was exported at a total cost of USD 3.2 mln.
"Compared to 3 thou. t of the corresponding products supplied abroad, we have an increase in the volume of foreign supplies by 64% in physical terms and 57% in foreign exchange earnings. Taking into account that import of this commodity group has changed little in comparison with 2019 (3.07 thou. t were imported in 2020 against 2.96 thou. tons in January-October 2019), we have a significant excess of external supplies of co-products over import volumes and positive foreign trade balance for this commodity position — USD 0.4 mln," commented the head of the analytical department of the Association Aleksandra Bondarskaya.
According to the expert, if import volumes of frozen pork liver are taken into account, Ukraine still remains a net importer of pork co-products, although the negative foreign trade balance for these items for the analyzed period decreased by 30% and amounted to USD -3.35 mln.
"Apart from the active export of other frozen pork co-products, it was promoted by reduction of pork liver import volumes: less than 8 thou. t worth USD 3.8 mln for 10 months of 2020 against 9.6 thou. t totalling USD 4.56 mln," summed up Aleksandra Bondarskaya.
Pork export from Ukraine in Jan-June 2020 increased by 39% YoY to 1.4 thou. t (Jan-June 2019: 1 thou. t).
