Grain export 2020/21: corn export pace lost 40%

Staple grains export shipment from Ukraine has made up 16.85 mln t since the start of the 2020/21 season. As of Nov. 4, agricultural commodities shipment dropped by 2.79 mln t or 14% from the prior year's comparative period, 19.64 mln t, the information-analytical portal of the agro-industrial complex of Ukraine reports.

Grain export structure in the reporting period:

  • wheat: 10.75 mln t, 8% or 920 thou. t y-o-y
  • barley: 3.38 mln t, 1% or 41 thou. t y-o-y
  • corn: 2.65 mln t, 40% or 1.74 mln t y-o-y
  • rye: 1.7 thou. t, 66% or 3.3 thou. t y-o-y

As a reminder, the Ministry for the Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine and grain market participants signed the Annex to the Memorandum of Understanding on Aug. 17, setting the limit for wheat export from Ukraine in the 2020/21 season at 17.5 mln t, rye at 1 thou. t. As of the reporting date, 59% of the agreed volume of wheat export was shipped.

In the 2019/20 season, grains, pulses and flour export from Ukraine totalled the record 57.2 mln t, 6.8 mln t higher YoY (2018/19: 50.4 mln t).

As of November 2, agriproducers in Ukraine harvested 70.5 mln t of main crops on 21.8 mln ha, of which grains and legumes total 53.5 mln t harvested on 13.5 mln ha, making up 88% of the planned areas.
