Cereals carryovers ample in Ukraine, uncommon for new season's start
At the start of the 2022/23 season (July-June), a heavy volume of grain carryovers was accumulated in Ukraine, unusual for the country, the APK-Inform consultancy reports.
"Specifically, according to our estimates, carryover stocks of wheat in Ukraine at the beginning of 2022/23 amounted to 5.3-5.5 mln t (1.5x higher than the previous season), barley — 1.1 mln t (+14%), corn — 7.7 mln t (3.8x more). These figures put pressure on the price situation and the market situation as a whole," says Andriy Kupchenko, head of the business projects unit of APK-Inform.
He adds that Ukraine maintained its position among the top 10 world grain producing countries in 2021/22:
- 4th position among barley producers
- 6th — corn
- 7th — wheat
Ukraine's position in the top 5 grain exporting countries in 2021/22:
- 3rd position among barley exporters
- 4th — corn
- 5th — wheat
In its September report, USDA estimated 2021/22 corn ending stocks in Ukraine at 5.57 mln t (2020/21: 0.83 mln t), wheat at 5.81 mln t (2020/21: 1.51 mln t).
