Winter crops 58% planted in Ukraine by October 17

Winter grains sowing is progressing in all regions of Ukraine. The campaign has covered 2.8 mln ha, 58% of the planned areas, as of October 17 (2021: 5.7 mln ha, 72%).

Winter rapeseed planting for the 2023 harvest exceeded the planned areas. The crop covers 999 thou. ha, 104% of the proj. area (2021: 1 mln ha, 98%), the Agrarian Ministry reports.

Planting progress by crops:

  • wheat: 2.5 mln ha, 61% (2021: 5 mln ha, 75%)
  • barley: 265 thou. ha, 39% (511 thou. ha, 50%)
  • rye: 69 thou. ha, 81% (139 thou. ha, 86%)

Winter crops planting in Ukraine

In the week of September October 10-16, winter grains were planted on 954 thou. ha. Agricultural producers of Dnipropetrovsk and Odesa regions planted 100 thou. ha over the past week.

Winter crops area in 2022/23 is projected to decrease in Ukraine.
