Planting 2023: winter crops areas in Ukraine 42% down, 6 regions complete the campaign

Winter grains sowing in Ukraine has covered 4.446 mln ha, 93.6% of the planned areas, as of November 21 (2021: 7.7 mln ha).

Six regions of Ukraine — Vinnytsya, Volyn, Kyiv, Poltava, Ternopil and Chernivtsi — have completed winter crops planting for the 2023 harvest. Fieldwork is close to the end in Zhytomyr, Polvata, Khmelnytsky, Kirovohrad, Lviv and Chernihiv regions.

Winter rapeseed planting for the 2023 harvest exceeded the planned areas. The crop covers 998.9 thou. ha, 103.6% of the proj. area (2021: 1.02 mln ha), the Agrarian Ministry reports.

Planting progress by crops:

  • wheat: 3.754 mln ha, 94.1% (2021: 6.5 mln ha)
  • barley: 612.5 thou. ha, 90.6% (2021: 1 mln ha)
  • rye: 79.2 thou. ha, 92.5% (2021: 159 thou. ha)

Winter grains planting in Ukraine

In the week of November 14-20, winter grains were planted on 61 thou. ha. Agricultural producers of Odesa region planted 490.5 thou. ha of winter wheat, the largest area of this crop for the 2023 harvest among all the regions of the country.
