Ukraine's soybean production in 2022 up 7% YoY

Soybean production in Ukraine in 2022 increased by 7% YoY to 3.7 mln t. Last year, this oilseed crop covered 1.5 mln ha, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine reports.

"About 658 thou. t of Ukrainian soybeans (17.5% of total production) were certified as compliant with the principles of sustainability. That is, it is not genetically modified and grown on land not deforested or converted to other land uses, according to the standards of the Association Donau Soja," the message reads.

Soybean production in Ukraine in the past three seasons:

  • 2022: 3.72 mln t on 1.5 mln ha
  • 2021: 3.43 mln t on 1.28 mln ha
  • 2020: 2.8 mln t on 1.3 mln ha

This ensures stringent compliance with EU regulations on plant protection, greenhouse gas emissions and traceability to the field. These standards are contained in the new EU requirements for the supply of raw materials that pose a risk to forests and ecosystems. The new EU FECR is scheduled to come into force in 2024.

The Agrarian Ministry notes that this remarkable result was achieved through the implementation of the Protein Partnership Programme. It is aimed at stimulating the production of non-GM soybeans in a sustainable way for further supplies to European countries.

In January 2023, soybean export from Ukraine reached 406 thou. t, making a record-high monthly volume over the past few years.
