Poland moves to extend ban on Ukraine farm products import until year end

Poland requests the European Commission to ban imports of agricultural products from Ukraine until the end of 2023, RMF24 reports.

"The European Union has proposed that this [a ban on imports of products – ed.] should be in place until June. Obviously, we do not agree with this. June is not enough, maybe until the end of the year. It is very important for us that the mechanisms we are introducing today work longer, that they protect the Polish market longer," the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Robert Telus announced.

On April 25, the agriculture ministers of Poland, Bulgaria, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary will continue negotiations on imports of agricultural products from Ukraine with European Trade Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis.

They seek to expand the list of commodities banned for import from Ukraine and include apple juice, poultry meat and soft fruits.

"Following discussions, the European Union has already agreed to some of our proposals. Several products have already been included in the list for negotiation, but we have even more products that we want to fight for together," the Polish minister added.

The European Commission approved a ban on imports of wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflowerseeds from Ukraine.
