European Commission agrees to ban import of Ukrainian sunflower oil

The European Commission greenlit the ban on imports of sunflower oil from Ukraine. Transit of agricultural commodities remains in place, Polish Agriculture Minister Robert Telus announced, EPravda reports.

He confirmed that the country has no plans to abandon its unilateral blockade of Ukrainian imports until Polish conditions are met.

"We are not abandoning the measures we have taken at this point unless we get the appropriate mechanisms to ensure that the Polish farmer is safe when it comes to issues related to trade, the flow of goods from Ukraine to Poland," Telus said.

The third round of talks between European Commission Vice-President Valdis Dombrovskis and Agriculture Commissioner Janusz Wojciechowski with the agriculture ministers of the five countries that banned imports of agricultural products from Ukraine ended in failure.

Farmers in five European countries — Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria — will receive subsidies from the European Commission only if they abandon unilateral restrictions on imports of Ukrainian grain.
